The Lummer Lake is located just a few meters outside the small village of Sohlbach, which has about 120 inhabitants and is idyllically situated as a dead-end village in the Rothaar Mountains near the Rothaarsteig. Sohlbach was first mentioned in documents in 1344. The local area is at an altitude of 380 to 420 m. Mountains in the area are the Streithain at 548 m, the Breiter Berg at 628 m, and the Alte Burg at 632 meters.

The Lummer Lake is located in the Sohlbach valley, through which the Hohe Netphe flows. The source of the Hohe Netphe is in the southeastern part of the Rothaargebirge at about 618 m above sea level, about 2.7 km southeast of Sohlbach and near the Eder source.
